The Administrator of Anseba region, Mr. Gergis Girmai, has called for stepped-up collaboration on the part of communities and government bodies for  still more gratifying outcome.

 

Keren, 24 December 2013 – The Administrator of Anseba region, Mr. Gergis Girmai, has called for stepped-up collaboration on the part of communities and government bodies for  still more gratifying outcome. The Administrator made the call at the Administration’s annual assessment meeting, during which he pointed out that the role of communities in general and that of sub-zonal Administrators in particular is significant as regards sustaining water conservation for agricultural purpose.

According to the reports presented in the course of the meeting, the efforts made to develop some select seeds and mixed mode of sowing in Hamelmalo and Hagaz sub-zones have given rise to a positive outcome. Moreover, the construction of a dam in Hashferai has reached finalization and 2 ponds have been put in place in Balqai as well as Ad-Sheikh villages, while temperate fruits introduced in the sub-zones of Geleb and Halhal are in a good condition.

Accordingly, significant accomplishment has been made pertaining to adult education, and the putting in place of new schools in various localities of the region is nearing finalization. A number of villages including Hawsha, Dembe-Adi-Tsegai, Ashera, Berekentya, Deroq and Gizgiza have become beneficiaries of potable water supply at a total expenditure of more than 23 million Nakfa, and further efforts were made to meet the water demand of Keren city.

It was stated during the meeting that the ongoing rural electrification process in the region has witnessed outreach to 31 villages this year, as the inhabitants of Asmat and Kerkebet sub-zones become beneficiaries of mobile telephone service.

The participants of the meeting adopted future work plans for the forthcoming year and the role of sub-zonal Administrators was emphasized as being vital in their implementation.
