The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region said that endeavors exerted towards promoting health services in the course of 2013 have given rise to a tangible outcome, especially in prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Barentu, 24 December 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region said that endeavors exerted towards promoting health services in the course of 2013 have given rise to a tangible outcome, especially in prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases. It made the remark at an assessment meeting in Barentu city, during which Dr. Leul Banteyirga, Head of the branch office, pointed out that effective undertakings have been carried out in collaboration with communities and local administrations as regards preventing potential epidemics across borderlines.
Accordingly, the morbidity rate of malaria in the region has shown remarkable drop following the implementation of several programs targeting raised community awareness thereof and proper use of mosquito nets, in addition to environmental hygiene.
Moreover, the participants of the meeting exchanged views focusing on a number of health issues.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister of Health Ms. Amna Nur-Hussein, lauded the active role of health professionals in the region pertaining to prevention of diseases, and called on them to sustain commitment in their career pursuits. She also disclosed that additional endeavors would be made to expand the infrastructural scope of health institutions in the region.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mohammed Hamd, Administrator of Gash-Barka region, voiced the Administration’s readiness to collaborate with the branch office.
