Mendefera, 01 January 2014 – The Administrator of the Southern region, Mr. Efrem Gebrekirstos, said that vigorous efforts would be exerted in the region towards attaining food security through expanding drip irrigation farming below dams.
He made the remarks at an annual assessment meeting conducted recently, during which the Administrator noted the significance of the construction of terraces and related activities in raising output, in addition to soil and water conservation. He further indicated that the necessary efforts would be made to this end on the basis of active community participation.
In the course of the meeting, Mr. Efrem outlined the accomplishments registered in 2014 as regards soil and water conservation endeavors, water supply facilities and strengthening the teaching-learning process, among others.
In closing remarks, the regional Administrator explained that soil and water conservation activities, expanding solar energy, construction and renovation of dirt roads, coupled with installation of electricity facilities in Areza and its environs are among the programs to be implemented in 2015.
